We’ve banned group photos after research reveals single’s pet peeves on dating apps
Think you’ve put together the perfect dating app profile but the matches aren’t coming in? Well, you could be going wrong with your photos…
We surveyed over 1,000 singles and found that their top ten biggest frustrations when it comes to dating profiles are:
Fake photos (43%)
Too many photos without the person (36.4%)
Only one photo ( 35.1%)
Wearing sunglasses or hats (29.5%)
They look different in every photo (24.2%)
Poor quality photo (23.6%)
Group photos (23.4%)
Too much nudity (11.9)
Selfies (9.6)
Childhood photos (9.2%)
Eight in 10 of those surveyed said they care about the quality of photos they see on dating app profiles and for 9 in 10, profile pictures are just as, if not more important, than bios.
Our members have spoken and we’re taking action by setting a requirement for at least three photos. If they want to see more than three photos of another member, they will now have to have more than three photos in their profile. They’ll see blurred pictures and a prompt will appear asking to upload more photos if they haven’t respected this condition.
We’re also introducing a ban on group photos. Singles using the app will no longer be able to set their first photo as a group photo, making it much easier for other singles to identify who they really are.
Our CEO, David Vermeulen said: “Finding a match is about more than what someone looks like, but we can’t shy away from the fact that it’s the first impression that counts. We already tackle frustrations like having no photos at all, filters and photos with hats and sunglasses by having a screening team that ensures our members are putting effort into the profiles.
“We’re now putting further measures in place so members don’t change their profile pictures to group photos and show enough of themselves by uploading more than three pictures. If you're putting the effort into dating, so should the people you're meeting.”
