sweating is sexy

If you've ever felt a spark of attraction towards someone running in the park, you're not alone – it's totally natural!

Science shows that the chemistry between people who engage in sports is real, and the reasons go beyond just physical attraction or shared lifestyles. Keep reading (it might give you some great talking points to start a conversation):

Ah, the glow

Starting from the outside in, those who think sweat is embarrassing are mistaken. On the contrary, it actually gives the skin a healthy glow and vitality, thanks to the body’s cooling system. According to physiologist Bob Murray, we activate around two million sweat glands in the process, and the result—not only does it regulate internal body temperature—but it also leaves the skin smooth and radiant (just look at your own skin after a workout). With flushed cheeks and a healthy appearance, we also signal good reproductive health.

The ideal partner

A study conducted in the United States with 265 participants in November 2020 found that "exercising makes us more attractive." Women tend to prefer people with higher self-esteem, and participants from both genders who exercised regularly reported feeling better about themselves. In other words, the "ideal partner" equation works when both people feel they are worth it.

Stronger together

A study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in 2004 found that couples who work out together can have healthier relationships. Exercise triggers the same effects as physical attraction—racing heartbeats, shortness of breath, and sweaty palms—and illustrates the kind of energizing activities couples can do together. In short, it’s all benefits!
